Born on February 13, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. David Jeremiah hails from a devout Christian family. His father, James T. Jeremiah, was a renowned pastor who served at various churches, including Emmanuel Baptist Church. After completing his high school education, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cedarville College, graduating in 1963. Driven by a passion for theology, he continued his academic journey at Dallas Theological Seminary, earning a Master’s degree in Theology in 1967, and later attended Grace Seminary.
Dr. Jeremiah’s illustrious career in ministry began when he became the senior pastor at Shadow Mountain Community Church in 1981, leading the church to affiliate with the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1982, he founded Turning Point Ministries, a global outreach that has since garnered numerous accolades, including multiple awards for the Turning Point program, which airs on over 2,000 TV stations worldwide.
In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah embarked on a lifelong journey with his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson, whom he married. Together, they have been blessed with four children: two daughters, Jan and Jennifer, and two sons, David and Daniel. His eldest son, David Michael, serves as the president of Turning Point Ministries and the anchor voice of the radio program, while Daniel, his other son, is a former NFL scout and currently works as an analyst with the NFL Network. Donna, Dr. Jeremiah’s devoted wife, has been an integral part of their ministry, co-authoring several books with her husband.
In 1994, Dr. Jeremiah faced one of life’s greatest challenges when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system. He underwent treatment at a local hospital in La Jolla, California, where he met Dr. Alan Saven, an oncologist who became his primary medical provider and played a pivotal role in his recovery and healing process. In 1999, a nodule was surgically removed from his neck, and he underwent stem cell transplant therapy, ultimately leading to his successful survival and complete recovery from the disease.
More recently, in January 2023, Dr. Jeremiah experienced an unexpected setback when he fell during a conference in the Caribbean. Initially assuming he had fully recovered, he later realized the lingering effects of his injury required surgical intervention. Heeding the advice of his doctors, Dr. Jeremiah took a month off from his demanding schedule to ensure a thorough and complete healing process.
